Brookline
Music School is proud of its community programs within Brookline and the
surrounding areas. By collaborating with local organizations, the School is able
to greatly expand the availability of music concerts and lessons throughout the
community. The School’s Annual Fund supports a wide variety of activities
including free classes for low-income and at-risk children, low-cost piano
lessons for seniors at the Brookline Senior Center and over 100 free concerts by
students and faculty. These concerts are most often at town arts
festivals, local museums, public school assemblies, public libraries, hospitals,
nursing homes, senior residential facilities, and in the Bakalar Recital Hall at
Kennard House, the School’s home location.
Annual Fund
While program fees cover the School’s basic operating costs, essential programs
such as student scholarships, faculty enrichment and community outreach are
solely supported by contributions to the School’s Annual Fund. Brookline Music
School would like to thank its many loyal friends and families whose generous
donations make these vital programs possible. We are all most grateful for your
continued support.

On the first Wednesday of every month during fall and spring semesters, members
of Brookline Music School's faculty perform in a well-attended lunchtime concert
series.

Cleveland Circle (formerly Heritage at Cleveland Circle),
a senior residential
facility with an impressive dedication to ongoing educational and arts
opportunities for its residents.

Horizons for Homeless Children Amory Street, Jamaica Plain
Brookline Music School sponsors free weekly music and movement classes (Musical Horizons) for children
at Horizons for Homeless Children in Jamaica Plain. Thanks to a grant from the
Edith Glick Shoolman Children's Foundation, we will be expanding the program to
the Dorchester and Roxbury locations, tripling the number of children served per
year. Jeanne Rintell, Early Childhood Specialist at BMS, has been teaching
the Musical Horizons program since 2004 and is excited to share the
benefits of music with even more children.

The Brookline Community Mental Health
Center http://www.brooklinecenter.org On Monday, March 6th, 2006, for the third year in a row, a Brookline
Music School student jazz ensemble led by John Purcell
provided musical accompaniment to the Brookline Community Center's annual
fundraiser at the Arcade Building in Coolidge Corner. This year's
performers also included
an antiphonal trumpet and trombone choir directed by Tom Halter and Russell
Jewell. After the catered reception at the Arcade Building, the party moved
to the Coolidge Corner Theatre for a private screening of "The Thing About My
Folks," a heartwarming and hilarious road trip film starring Peter Falk, Paul Reiser and Olympia Dukakis. Proceeds provide high quality community-based mental
health services to uninsured and under-insured individuals and families in
Brookline.
In March 2006, Brookline Music School's
Honors Jazz Ensemble students,
directed by John Purcell, were the featured performers at the inaugural
Family Album Gala fundraiser at the Westin Copley Plaza.
Families First is a non-profit organization which strengthens families of
all
backgrounds and life circumstances by providing parenting education and
support through seminars, workshops, and special events throughout
Greater Boston and New England.

Coolidge House Nursing Care

As part of its ongoing relationship with Coolidge
House, Brookline Music School offers occasional concerts for residents and
special events.

Framingham State College, The Center for Lifelong
Learners
The Center for Lifelong Learners offers Saturday on-campus seminars and
workshops and weekday off-campus mini-series for adult learners at independent,
assisted living communities, and senior centers throughout the MetroWest region.
Brookline Music School has been invited in the past to
offer lecture/recitals as part of this innovative community education program.
This
program is offered in partnership with Framingham State College, The Center for
Lifelong Learners.
BMS instructors Tom Krusinski and Dayse Waissman offered a free weekly Music and Movement group class for teens in residence
at the Ivy Street School in Brookline, with funding from the
Brookline Community Foundation. The Ivy Street School, a unique day,
residential, and therapeutic school was developed to meet the educational needs
of adolescents with acquired brain injuries and other challenging neurological
difficulties. Brookline Music School's Music &
Movement Program is a comprehensive musical curriculum
designed todevelop listening, vocal,
motor and musicliteracy skills.
Classes focus on stimulating social, emotional and physical development in an
informal atmosphere.
In November 2005,
Brookline Music School sponsored faculty member
Matylda Rotkiewicz to
perform classical piano music for the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans'
annual "Leave No One Behind" benefit dinner.
Runkle School Music and Arts
Festival

performed on June 12, 2006 for the Runkle School's Music and Art Festival.
