Studio Recitals
Student studio recitals are held monthly on Wednesdays and Sundays, with additional
days and times at the end of each term. These recitals are typically a mix of
instruments, ages, levels, and styles and are a great way for students to gain
exposure to a variety of musical possibilities. Students are encouraged to play
the same piece in more than one recital in order to gain confidence and comfort
in performing.

Duos Concert
String Players & Pianist Student Duets & Trios

Do you ever dream
of getting out of the studio and playing together with friends? Students are now
given the chance! The Dynamic Duos Concert will feature student duets and trios
consisting of string players and pianists - any combination we can come up with!
Piano and String students
from eleven different studios have been working over the past month to prepare
for this culminating concert. Students were nominated by their teachers, matched
into pairs, and assigned Repertoire.
Voice Open Mike Night
Friday, March 19, 2010, 7:30-9:30pm
Bakalar Recital Hall, $5/door
Students can
hone their skills jamming and performing with a microphone and backing group,
and receive valuable feedback from faculty.

Workshops & Masterclasses
The Honors Program features monthly workshop opportunities in which students
explore topics such as performance practice, history, literacy and
improvisation. Some workshops are in a masterclass format focusing on
performance, while others are presented in an interactive discussion format.
Classical Piano Masterclass -Sunday March 14, 2010 - 3:00pm
Studio B,
Free & Open to the Public
Sandra Hebert from Boston College and Longy School of Music, presents a
Classical Piano Masterclass that is geared toward late intermediate/advanced
pianists.
Sandra Hebert,
B.M., M.M.,
D.M.A., Boston University. Principal teachers Bela Boszormenyi-Nagy and Anthony
diBonaventura. Visiting Professor of Piano, Wuhan (China) Conservatory of Music,
1997-present. Music faculty, Director of Chamber Music, Boston College.
Performances include concert tour throughout China, as well as performance,
masterclasses and lectures on Chinese radio and television. Solo, duo-piano,
chamber and concerto performances throughout the U.S. and on public radio.
Premiere performances of numerous new works in U.S. and China. Recordings: Le
Chant du Monde, CRI, Arcadian Winds.
Jazz Masterclass - Sunday March 21, 2010 - 3:00pm
Bakalar Recital Hall, Free & Open to the Public
Jazz pianist and
educator Harvey Diamond will join us as our guest artist this spring. Students
playing jazz standards, blues pieces, rags, etc, are encouraged to participate -
students should prepare two jazz pieces to perform.
Harvey Diamond is one
of the most accomplished pianists in the Boston area. His career in jazz spans
more than 50 years, from his first gigs as a teenager in hometown of San
Francisco, to performing across the U.S. and Europe, accompanying celebrated
jazz singer Sheila Jordan and trumpeter Art Farmer and others. Harvey was a
long-time student of Lennie Tristano, known throughout the world as a jazz
innovator, and received his bachelor's degree in music from San Francisco State.
He has been a faculty member at the Berklee College of Music and is currently on
the faculty of the Winchester Community School of Music. He combines performing
with teaching both adult and young students.

unique and educational concerts throughout the year in the Kennard House and at
numerous community locations.
Departmental Events
Throughout the year, our experienced coordinators
organize workshops, competitions, masterclasses, field trips and special events
for their departments.

Suzuki
Every Child Can:
Sunday, January 10, 9:30am - 4:00pm
An introduction to Dr. Suzuki's philosophy and its application to Suzuki
education. For parents, teachers, prospective teachers and others, this new
course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching
and learning.

Suzuki Flute Teacher
Training (Book 3):
Thursday, January 14 - Monday, January 18
Over the course of five days, trainees will receive 15 hours of classroom time
and eight hours of observation time completed in conjunction with the 6th Annual
Suzuki Flute Workshop.

Workshop:
Sunday, January 17, 9:00am - 5:00pm - Monday,
January 18, 8:30am - 4:00pm
Two-day workshop featuring a masterclass, group class and ensemble or reading
class each day, that ends with an informal concert. Students have the option to
participate in "Flute Outside the Box" (whistles, key clicks, harmonics and
more) or "Comfluter" (mix flutists with the BMS' new amazing Mac technology
lab).
