Studio Recitals
Student studio recitals are held monthly on Wednesdays and Sundays, with additional
days and times at the end of each term. These recitals are typically a mix of
instruments, ages, levels, and styles and are a great way for students to gain
exposure to a variety of musical possibilities. Students are encouraged to play
the same piece in more than one recital in order to gain confidence and comfort
in performing.

BOSTON SUZUKI FLUTE
INSTITUTE (Formerly known as
Suzuki in the Berkshires Flute Institute) August 4 - 8,
2013 at Brookline Music School
Students & Teachers Book 3 & 4
A half-hour SAA meeting will be scheduled as part of the institute program.
All students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Student Program
Each flute student will participate
in four classes daily, including a master class, ensemble or reading, repertoire
and one level-appropriate enrichment class.
Enrichment Classes
Enrichment classes include Dance/Movement, Outside the Box, Comfluter, and
Jazz. Additional enrichment classes available at extra cost are Sibling
Piano (daily master class and one enrichment elective) and Piano Elective (for
enrolled flute students).
Performances
Students will have performance opportunities in play-ins, noon recitals,
and a final concert.
Boston is a popular tourist destination in the summer so campus housing is
usually the most cost effective choice as the fees for lodging and meals.
Local hotels are also available in the area usually at a higher cost and
should be booked early in the season.

Sunday, January 27, 2013, 8:30am - 4:30pm An introduction to Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy and its application to Suzuki
education. For parents, teachers, prospective teachers and others, this new
course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching
and learning. This course is required for all new Suzuki teachers, but open to
prospective teachers, parents, administrators and all others interested in
learning about Suzuki approach to education. It is not instrument-specific.
There are no instrument proficiency requirements. No audition is required.

9TH
ANNUAL SUZUKI FLUTE WORKSHOP
Sunday, January 20 & Monday, January 21, 2013
9:00am-5:00pm This two-day
workshop features a master class, group class and ensemble or reading class each
day, and ends with an informal concert. Non-Suzuki
flute students are welcome to join in the fun but should be familiar with some
of the repertoire from the Suzuki Method. For a brochure

Muddy River Dulcimer Festival

The festival includes folk concerts, an
instrument petting zoo and nine workshops for beginner and experienced
players.
Dulcimers and merchandise will

instrument before. We’ll loan you a dulcimer for the afternoon workshops.
Already play dulcimer? Sharpen your skills, and be challenged and inspired by
offerings for intermediate and advance players.

musician Pam Weeks joins Brookline’s own Lorraine Hammond in a performance for
kids of all ages. Meet the dulcimer, banjo, fiddle, mandolin and folk harp in this
joyful session. Audience participation will be encouraged with dulcimers for
loan during the concert and families may sample instruments at the instrument
petting zoo that follows.

Performance Master Class with Sandra Hebert

Work with Ms. Hebert in this traditional performance master class. The
event will feature student performances from the BMS piano department
followed by interactive coaching sessions with Ms. Hebert. This event is

The Brookline
Music School's guitar faculty asked their students this fall: "What
do you LOVE about guitar?" Nearly 80 students responded: "Let me show you!"
Guitober Rocks Brookline Music Schoolis a short film
featuring the students and faculty of BMS’ guitar department,
leading you on a journey as they explore their favorite six-stringed
instrument. See students of all ages and levels show you why the guitar

Hammonds are skilled entertainers, and this event will feature a lively
assortment of traditional American instruments and songs. Enjoy five-string
banjo, Appalachian dulcimer, Celtic harp, acoustic guitar, mandolin, and a
vast repertoire of traditional and contemporary songs, tunes & ballads, plus
songs from their
most recent release, 'The Opal Ring', on the Snowy Egret label.

FREE! A grab bag of shorter solo pieces by Romantic and Modern composers, this
program will explore the ways music can evoke different times and places,
feelings and ideas in the listener. You'll hear music by famous composers such
as Claude Debussy and Johannes Brahms along lesser-known works of Olivier
Messiaen and Frederic Rzewski. The program will also feature a world premier of
"Mystic Garden," a collection of miniatures by composer Brain Hulse.
